The Lord has men and women planted in various places to spread His word, from the smallest of settings to the largest of cathedrals, and beyond. Many of the deposits that they have sown into our lives as children are some of the things that have shaped who we are today. One thing that I know to be true is that Heavenly planted seeds have a lasting impact.
Maybe you remember your first Sunday school teacher who taught you the song, “The B-I-B-L-E yes that’s the book for me,” and throughout your life you always knew that the Bible was where you could find all of your answers. Perhaps you had godly parents, grandparents or other significant people in your life that always stood for Christ. Their faith was strong regardless of what life brought their way. As a result of watching how they handled things a seed of faith was planted in you and now nothing can sway you from the fact that God never fails.
When I was in the 5th or 6th grade I remember going out-of-town to visit family. Directly across the street from where my aunt lived was a house in which church services were held. When it was time for midweek service I sat on my aunt’s porch eagerly listening to the sounds coming from that house. I heard praises to God, the jubilant sounds of the tambourine, the melodic beat of the drums, and the pastor’s fiery preaching. Even though I was a child I could feel the Spirit of God and I actually wanted to be in that house to experience the fullness of the service.
One day I had permission to attend one of the services with my friend. I was so happy to be there! I felt relieved and joyful all at the same time. Today I love worship music but, I also love some good old fashion praise music that I can joyfully listen to and play my tambourine as I give glory to God. I really believe that my love for the things of God is deeply connected to the seed that was planted in me all those years ago.
Reflections
1. What is your first memory of a Christian experience?
2. What impact did that experience make in your life?
