As Christians we should always seek to please the Lord. In fact, that should be our highest aspiration. We can get so much accomplished when we are flowing in His perfect will. God’s peace accompanies us when we yield ourselves to His way of doing things. Many of us can relate to times in our lives when things just didn’t flow as well as we thought they should especially for a child of God. Although there are various reasons why this may occur we are going to take a look at three very important indicators of not following the will of God.
Denying the Omnipresence of God
Would you really do what you shouldn’t be doing if you could actually see God standing right there with you? We know that God is everywhere at every time and He sees and knows everything. Would you speak to others harshly and proudly say, “Oh that’s just the way I am, take it or leave it.” Would you flirt with someone’s spouse? Would you dress inappropriately? Would you lie in order to get ahead? Acting like God is not present is a huge indicator of not following the will of God.
Trying to Make Your Ways Fit
This includes trying to make your plans or philosophy of life fit into God’s way of doing things. For instance, you may have already gotten instructions from the Lord to do something but, it doesn’t line up with what you had already planned prior to talking to Him. Trying to make our plans work when God has already laid out perfect instructions is a waste of time. If we want things to turn out right we have to follow our Heavenly Father’s directives. His plans and His word always work!
Shutting God Out
This scenario happens when you know that you are not doing something that lines up with God’s will and you don’t have any intentions of repenting and getting it right with Him. Acting as if God doesn’t see your heart or motives is prevalent in ignoring God. When the Holy Spirit brings conviction, in so many words you tell God, “that’s ok God, I don’t need your help. I’ve got this.”
It is so important that we take a real look at our daily walk with God. We have been doing some things for years. Some of the things may have been from learned behavior, bad habits, generational curses, etc. If you have found yourself in any of the three indicators of not following the will of God sincerely ask Him for forgiveness, and help in submitting to doing things His way. He will not turn you aside.
Reflections
- Examine yourself and determine if you have been shutting God out of any situations in your life.
- How do you think God will respond to a true heart of repentance?
- Why should you trust God’s way of doing things 100% of the time?
God Bless!
