There are many ways to find peace in the presence of God. In this blog I will discuss 3 ways to find rest in God’s presence. I pray that you will be encouraged as you read this blog and even incorporate some of these ways into your life.
We must first realize that peace in its absolute truest form comes from our Heavenly Father. In fact, one of the names of God in the Hebrew language is Jehovah Shalom meaning the Lord is Peace. He has all of the peace that we will ever need. We must recognize how extremely blessed we are knowing that the God we serve is full of mercy, compassion, love, understanding, empathy, and so much more. He literally wants us to bring our burdens to Him so that He can lighten our load from whatever is attempting to demolish our peace.
Secondly, we have to be willing to cooperate with the Lord. In other words, if something is bothering us it is vital to our spiritual, emotional, and physical health that we completely relinquish those issues to the Lord. I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes it is a challenge to totally leave my worries in God’s hands without thinking about it again but, in that case, honesty is always the best policy. Telling the Lord exactly how I feel and asking Him to help me leave my worries in His capable hands speaks volumes to my helplessness without His power in my life. He is faithful to provide all of the help that we desperately need.
Lastly, learn how to get quiet in the presence of the Lord. One way of doing this is meditating on a specific scripture or passage of scriptures and picturing yourself in the story. For instance, find a quiet place to be alone with God, read the 1st three verses of the 23rd Psalm, then close your eyes and picture yourself laying down in a flourishing green pasture, then picture the Lord leading you beside beautiful peaceful waters. Believe that He is imparting His peace to you as you release your burdens to Him. Thank Him for restoring your physical strength and your soul (mind, will, and emotions).
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:1-3
Of course you can read the entire Psalm however; the 1st three verses were used in this blog as an example.
Reflections
- How often do you take time to be alone in the presence of the Lord?
- How do you obtain peace when you have been under pressure?
- Which one of the steps listed in this blog will you incorporate into your life?
God Bless!
