I’m reminded of a song that we used to sing at a church I attended some time ago, “Don’t Look Back”.  The lyrics were very simple but, we sang it with much conviction and passion.  The words simply said, “Run, run, run, run, don’t look back.  Run, run, run, run, don’t look back.  You better run but, don’t look back. You better run, but don’t look back.”

In other words, since you have made a life altering decision to follow Jesus Christ continue to move forward and follow Him.  In doing this there is much to gain number one being eternal life, as well as peace, joy, prosperity, health, spiritual gifts, favor, and the list goes on.  The song was saying to keep moving forward far, far, away from the life that you were living without Christ.

However, on the other hand the song clearly stated “don’t look back.”  Sure, it is okay to look back at your past with a grateful heart.  Looking back and thanking God that you are no longer where you used to be is a wonderful thing.  It makes you realize that there is nothing like the delivering grace of our Savior.  Glory to God in the highest!

Looking back at your past and wondering if you should have kept your former life that is, your life before Christ, is all together different.  It’s a snare and a trap that the enemy sets for believers in attempt to make them turn their backs on the Lord.  Satan would love for us to have an allegiance with him and be an enemy of God.

So keep moving forward.  Don’t allow anything negative from your past to call you back to that place.  It is a place that will steal the freedom that you have gained in Christ.  Embrace your freedom!  “You better run but, don’t look back.”

Reflections

  1. Have you ever been faced with the temptation of mingling with the negative things of your past?
  2. How did you handle that temptation?
  3. How important to you is the freedom that you have found in Christ?
  4. Take a few moments to tell the Lord how grateful you are for your freedom.

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”  Gal 5:1
