Many of us have experienced going to the emergency room of a hospital either because we were in pain or we were there to support someone else.  The time that is spent while waiting to be seen by the physician, getting tests done, waiting on the results of the tests, and wishing that the pain would immediately stop can prove to be an emotional rollercoaster.  I often compare this scenario to what I refer to as a spiritual waiting room.

The spiritual waiting room consists of situations that are hard to deal with and quite frankly, are often emergencies in our lives.  If we don’t get the urgent care that is required we can feel like we did in the traditional emergency room.  Some thoughts might be God please hurry and fix this situationWhy are You taking so long?  I know that You see what I’m going through.  If You don’t fix this how will I make it?  I know that I’m Your child and You will come through for me.

Maybe you can identify with all of the different thoughts that must be battled while experiencing a crisis.  Every person has their own specific way of getting through hardships in life.  I want to share with you the three keys to handling your spiritual waiting room.

Stay Focused On God

As chaotic as things may get resolve within yourself that nothing is going to separate you from God.  He is your source of peace, resolution to the problem, and He won’t leave you.  Talk to God often about how you’re feeling and that you know He will turn things around for you.  If you face doubt ask Him to help you with that too.  Remember that He loves you and will help you through every adverse situation.

Recognize The Voice Of The Enemy

The devil loves to beat you up especially when you’re already feeling down or vulnerable.  He doesn’t care one bit about you so it is imperative that you recognize every thought or words that people may say to you that don’t line up with the word of God.  Don’t receive things that are contrary to God’s word, love, and compassion for you.

Have A Grateful Heart

Remind yourself of the Lord’s faithfulness towards you.  Think about specific things that He’s done in your life and thank Him for it.  Read scriptures and stories about the goodness of God and His saving grace. Sing songs about His faithfulness. Thank the Lord for being His child and because of that fact you know that You are in good hands.

Reflections

  1. Do you feel like you are in a spiritual waiting room right now?

  1. If yes, how are you dealing with the wait?

  1. What does the following scripture mean to you:

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31
