Music and singing can be such a beautiful means of expressing one’s heart and feelings.  When we sing a song of gratitude to the Lord it has the capability of making a special connection with Him.  Songs with the right lyrics are powerful enough to evoke someone to tears, get up and dance, or sit and quietly reflect on the message that’s being conveyed.

Singing is mentioned so many times throughout the Bible until it makes you aware that God honors it as a good thing.  Look at what the Amplified version of Psalm 47:1 says, “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God, for He is gracious and lovely; praise is becoming and appropriate.”  In Psalm 100:1 the word of God tells us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.  So don’t even worry about what your singing sounds like; you are singing to your Heavenly Father.  He appreciates you wanting to do it and loves your adoration.

We have so many reasons to have a grateful heart.  Make up your own melody and combine it with some scriptures or your own personal praise.  You can also choose one or more of your favorite songs that express your love and gratitude for the Lord and sing that to Him.  Singing to God can increase the level of intimacy with Him during times of prayer and worship.  The Lord loves for us to praise and worship Him with a sincere heart.

Reflections

1. Name a song that expresses your gratitude to the Lord.

2. Do you ever sing to the Lord? If so, how do you think it makes God feel?

3. What feelings do you experience when you sing unto the Lord?
