Prayer is such a powerful thing.  It’s a special time of communicating with our heavenly Father.  In addition to the awesome privilege of being in His presence He also wants us to bring our concerns to Him.  Sometimes He answers right away and other times he requires that we wait.  Even though the waiting period is needful at times it can feel like a grueling process.  When the answer finally manifests our initial reaction may be a little on the side of caution.  Perhaps wondering if we can really trust what we are seeing with our own eyes.  What are you waiting for?

I’m reminded of a story in the 12th chapter of the book of Acts where people in the church were fervently praying for Peter who had been imprisoned by King Herod who had planned to kill him.   During the night the Lord sent an angel to deliver Peter.  After Peter was freed from prison he went to a house where people were praying for him.  He knocked on the door, a young lady who heard Peter’s voice at the door got so excited until she didn’t even let him in but, ran and told the other’s that he was at the door.  Those same people who had been constantly praying for God to move on Peter’s behalf refused to believe the miraculous report that he was actually out of prison and standing at their door.  They finally opened the door and saw with their own eyes that he was indeed in their presence! They got a chance to see God’s sovereignty, faithfulness, and mighty delivering hand.  They witnessed God’s miracle working power and the unforgettable experience of answered prayer to what seemed to be an impossible situation.

We have to believe that God hears us when we pray and that there is an appointed time for Him to manifest our requests.  So when we begin to see things changing in our favor and answers begin to materialize let’s thank God that we are seeing clearly.  Let’s acknowledge that the help we so desperately longed for has arrived.  Let’s believe God, praise Him, and forever trust Him to deliver divine answers at the appointed time.

 Reflections

  1. Think about some situations in which you had to wait a long time before receiving the answer to your prayers?
  2. What did you find out about God while you were waiting?
  3. What did you find out about yourself while you were waiting?  For instance, did you maintain an attitude of praise?  Were your emotions speaking louder than your trust in God?

God Bless!
